Wrapper leaf basics
What the outer leaf does for appearance, combustion, and flavor, and why “Connecticut” is a style, not only a place.
The wrapper is the most visible leaf on a cigar and often the most expensive. It influences burn aesthetics, aroma at rest, and a meaningful share of first-third flavor. Common commercial families include Connecticut shade (milder, often creamy), Connecticut broadleaf / maduro (darker, sweeter, more fermented), Habano (spicier, oilier), and Corojo / Criollo lineages used across Cuba and the New World. When reading a review, treat wrapper claims as a starting hypothesis: blend, aging, and vitola can mute or amplify what the leaf suggests on paper.
